A little update!

Hi there!,
Its nearly so far, 61 days left and then our plane will go to South-Africa. I didn't upload that much but I will give you a small summary of what happened during this period.
First, we had meetings, most of the time at Wednesday, one meeting each month. During this meeting we did a lot of things: we watched a movie about Nelson Mandela; his lifetime and what he did for South-Africa, we did a game to get to know each other better; we all had to bring a photo of ourselves, this picture must be from when we were 2 or 3 years old, that was fun to do.
We had a team buildings day, the 8th of October 2017. At this day we spend a whole day in an empty school, what was fun. First we did a kind of PHE-lesson, mainly trust games. For example, someone is standing on a box (what is something like a metre high), next to the box are standing eight people to catch the person who is on the box. The person on the box is falling backward to the eight people. The purpose is that you as the person on the box trust the eight people that they will catch you when you fall. The next thing we did were the presentations, we were divided in groups of 4, each group had his own topic. There were in total 7 different topics, namely: education, apartheid, culture & habits, townships, Genadendal, Nelson Mandela and the history of South-Africa. The topic I had to present about was culture & habits (I will make a separate report with this presentation in it). After the 7 presentations it was time to eat something, we as the students had to take care of the lunch. Our idea was that everyone had to bring something, so there were croissants, cake, fruit, wraps, just bread, hagelslag, chocolate pasta, jam, etc.
At the 25th of October, it was finally so far. We got our first vaccination. In total I get 2 vaccinations, some students get 3 but that is based on your age. I am quite happy that I get only 2 vaccinations, and another positive thing about those vaccinations is that the second one is for the rest of your life!
For the fundraising plan I did multiple different things. I collected bottles and the deposit money we got, we put into a jar, to keep it save. Further I helped selling cookies during ‘Het Najaarsconcert’, that is an event at our school. And I helped Teun and Maaike at 'Huissen bij kaarslicht' to sell cookies, and believe me it was cold to stand outside for more than 4 hours in the snow. At last I helped to sell ‘knakworsten’ in a break at our school, we had a lot of bread and a lot of knakworsten but after 15 minutes we were sold out. As a group we were invited to help at the ‘Kerstmarkt’ in Bemmel, but after 2 hours it was cancelled because of the bad weather. Now, I understand your question: ‘What are you going to do with this money?’ with this money we are going to help the local people over there, with building houses and we invest in a secondary school, the Emil Weder school.
And last I have contact with my buddy! Yes, finally!! The name of my buddy is Devenia Adams. She is fifteen years old, she lives in Hermanus, but she stays in the hostel in Genadendal because Hermanus is too far away if she must go to school every day. She is in the grade9 but next year she will go to the grade10. Her hobbies are netball and spending time with friends and family. I think and hope that we have a good time in South-Africa.
